India wins 400th ODI | India Cricket

India's win over Sri Lanka on Tuesday night helped them win the ODI series 3-1. It was their 400th win in ODIs, making them just the third team to reach the mark. Australia and Pakistan have already been there, and they have done it with a much better winning percentage. Some stats:

India have had a deathgrip on their bilateral ODI series with Sri Lanka. They last lost a series to them as far back as 1997 under Arjuna Ranatunga. Since then, it has been one-way traffic.

Virender Sehwag has had little to do in India's chases off late. In his last 26 innings chasing, he has passed fifty just once — that innings of 99 not out against Sri Lanka in 2010. Since the start of 2011, his highest in 14 chases has been 39. The stats:

In contrast, Kohli has stood out as India's best while chasing. In the 50 chases since his debut, he has made eight hundreds and 13 fifties. He averages 61.02 — nearly twice of Sehwag's 32 chasing — for his 2502 runs in those games. Every time Kohli has made a hundred chasing, India have won. In fact, India have lost just once when Kohli has a hundred — the final ODI in England in 2011 in Cardiff.

Kohli has been among the top run scorers in the world for three consecutive years. In 2010, he had 995 runs at 47.38. He was behind only Hashim Amla with 1058. He was the top scorer in 2011, with 1381 runs at 47.62 four hundreds. In 2012 he is behind only Kumar Sangakkara.
