How to Deal with Skype Spam Calls

Working in Skype's Customer Service organization, I'm lucky to be able to help our users get the most out of Skype every day, helping to address their concerns and assist with any problems. Recently, we've heard a lot about unwanted spam calls and emails to some of our users' Skype accounts.
Claudius, our community manager, has pulled together some great tips on how to respond to spam calls from Skype Support Network power-user, Primemover:
  1. The best thing to do is to simply not answer calls from users you do not know. If you have already answered a call, disregard it and DO NOT follow any instructions the caller gave you. DO NOT visit any websites or links mentioned in the call. Fraudsters use many methods to trick their victims and it's important to be just as careful on Skype as you are when using your phone or email to communicate with unknown individuals.

  2. Change your privacy settings to only allow calls from people you have added to your contact list. It's easy to learn more about managing your privacy settings in Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac and Skype for Linux.

  3. Block the user that called you and report them for abuse. Doing this really helps us keep our network free of users who may have the wrong intentions. Learn more about blocking and reporting contacts in Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac and Skype for Linux.
If you have any additional questions or concerns about Skype spam calls and emails that weren't addressed in this post, please post them on the Skype Support Network community or in the comments below.
