Surfing Internet Anonymously using Free Proxies

The internet has become such an important part of our lives that it is almost impossible to see our lives without it. The internet has become the biggest data library; one where everyone gets their information from. There are literally countless web pages where we can get any information we want. However, security has always been a pressing issue.

You may have the world at your fingertips when you are using the internet at home but it’s a different show when you are on various networks. To control the content viewed, ISPs usually place filters or restrictions on the internet.

Many internet options in my area also have filters placed on them to restrict ‘certain’ content. Hotels, schools, libraries, intranets, etc, are all examples of places where internet content is usually restricted. This prohibits users from accessing certain web content.

In many cases, these filters are also placed nationwide. For example, practically all pornographic content is restricted in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E). If you want to circumvent these content restrictions, you will need to make use of a proxy. Alternatively, you could always buy a separate VPN service. However, we will stick with proxies for now. Internet options in my area also provide VPN services.

Proxies allow you to access the internet unrestricted. They are usually used in many businesses in order to keep their internet connection secure. Many people use it to maintain their privacy on the internet while many others use it to surf anonymously.

Regardless of whether it is Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera or even Apple Safari, you can configure each of these to allow you to use a proxy to surf the net. However, if you set any of these internet settings incorrectly, you could cut yourself from your internet. Many Internet options in my area set automatically in order to provide the best internet experience.

Google Chrome

  1. Click on the spanner in Google Chrome in order to go to the settings section.
  2. Once there, there will be an option known as ‘under the hood’; select it.
  3. Now select the ‘Change proxy settings under Network’ settings.
  4. From here, navigate to the LAN settings section (found in the connections tab).
Over here, you can change the proxy server yourself, followed by the port ID. This is more of a basic approach. Alternatively, if you are an advanced user, you could click on the advanced button and set the various internet and proxy protocols.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. In Mozilla Firefox, navigate to the options section found in the top-left corner.
  2. Go to the advanced tab and click on the Settings under Connection.
  3. From here, you can manually set the proxy.
This setting will follow the same setting as you did in Google Chrome. Once the Internet options in my area have been changed, I can browse the internet through a free proxy.

Internet Explorer

Here is the interesting part. Google Chrome uses the same internet connection that Internet Explorer does. So, if you managed to change the proxy settings for Google Chrome, those changes can automatically be seen in Internet Explorer. However, Internet options in my area state that it should be done at my own risk. However, you could always go to the tools section, click on option, go to the connection tab and click on LAN settings to set it separately. From here, set your proxy, IP and port ID as desired. Then again, you could always set the properties from the advanced tab. However, unless you know what you are doing, stick with the basic settings.

Opera For PC

  1. When in opera, click CTRL + F12 to access the preference options.
  2. Go to the advance tab and navigate to the network section.
  3. Now, select the ‘proxy servers’ section.

Set your proxy as you desire here following the same rules as we have so far.

Apple Safari

Even more interesting is the fact that Apple Safari also uses the internet settings that Internet Explorer and Google Chrome do. In other words, if you set the proxy on Internet Explorer or even Google Chrome, you won’t need to change the settings again.

Then again, you could always navigate to the settings icon, click on preferences, advance and proxies. Set your proxies accordingly. You can browse the internet safely and / or anonymously through many ways. The Internet options in my area and those described above are only a few examples.
