If you have a bootleg (fake) copy of Microsoft Windows XP with the Windows Genuine
Advantage Notifications Tool installed, irritating messages reminding
you that you have a bootleg copy of Windows installed on your PC appear
once every hour or so. Microsoft has made it so that the uninstall
feature on this doesn't exist, but there`s a way to simply delete the
tool rather than uninstall it. If possible, doing things without hacking
is always the better option as it provides much less chance of
something going wrong with your systems configuration. Please note that this is not a hacking.
Steps
- 1Click on Start>My Computer.
- 2Type the following text into the address bar at the top of the page C:\WINDOWS\system32
- 3Locate the file called WgaTray or WgaTray.exe and click on it once.
- 4Press the shift+delete keys (this combination will automatically delete the files completely off your PC instead of to the Recycle Bin) but don’t confirm the deletion yet.
- 5Right click on a non-occupied area of the taskbar and select Task Manager or press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- 6Click on the Processes tab at the top.
- 7Select the process called WgaTray.exe and click the end process button at the bottom and click yes to confirm the process termination.
- 8Confirm the delete of the WgaTray that you semi-deleted earlier (this must be done almost immediately after the process termination because it will re-open itself quickly so it’s a good idea to have the deletion confirmation window open behind the task manager for fast access).
- 9Restart your PC.
- 10In the system32 folder that was opened earlier, find and select the file called WgaLogon.dll and drag it into the Recycle Bin (located on the Desktop).
- 11Empty your Recycle Bin.
- 12Restart your PC and the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications Tool shouldn’t run anymore so now you have completely hassle free Windows XP usage.
Alternative method
- 1Start PC in "Safe Mode."
- 2Search wga and wgalogon two files in system32 windows folder.
- 3Change their extension to wga.ol and wgalogon.old.
- 4Restart PC in normal mode. Notification on the desktop has been disappeared.
- 5Open "C:\Windows" folder and inside it the "system 32" folder. Delete both wga.old and wgalogon.old files. In this way you have got free from Windows genuine advantage problem.
